Skylab was based on a single habitable module called the Orbital Workshop. The workshop, other main components and all ancillary equipment were launched together, fully assembled, on the Skylab 1 mission.
The solar arrays, for power were deployed after Skylab had reached its operational orbit. The Apollo Telescope Mount was moved to its operating position once in orbit. Its solar arrays then deployed. One of the main solar arrays was destroyed during launch. the other was jammed, but later freed by the Skylab 1 crew.
The diagrams below show the configuration of the components at launch and in orbit.
The following components are shown color coded in the diagrams (bottom to top):
Orbital Workshop (OWS) - The main pressurised module for living and working.
Solar Arrays System (SAS) - Electric power production.
Saturn V Instrument Unit (IU) - For guidance, environment and other systems.
Airlock Module (AM) - For extravehicular activity (EVA) via hatches,
Multiple Docking Adapter (MDA) - Two docking ports to accommodate Apollo crew craft,
Apollo Telescope Mount (ATM) - Multi-spectral solar observatory,
